Our Story

How it all started...

In 1921, a group of families felt the desire to have a community church where they could worship. Together, they went and purchased a German church in Freeland, MI,  that they relocated to Chapin Rd, in Merrill. Before they officially opened, they knew it was important to start with a foundation of prayer. A three-week revival service is where the story of Merrill Wesleyan Church officially begins. They opened as a Pilgrim Holiness Church and later merged with the Methodist Church in 1968, to become a Wesleyan Church. The roots at Merrill Wesleyan Church have always run deep.

Expanding the vision...

What started as a small community Church, quickly blossomed into something bigger. In 1997, it was time to expand! MWC broke ground and the Family Life Center was built. With the increase in families coming to Merrill Wesleyan, it was time to create space for what God was doing.

Where we are headed...

Merrill Wesleyan aims to be a church where everyone who walks through our doors feels like family and is part of something much larger than themselves. We believe that Jesus Christ should be at the center of everything we do—whether in our church building, in our local communities, or while supporting missions to reach the world. Our prayer is to consistently lead people to Jesus, help them grow in their faith, and serve Him by living out the Great Commission. May we remain steadfast in this mission as we move into the future!

Philippians 3:14 " I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
